Galatians 5:16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. The way to live the Christian life is not by striving to do so. The more we try, the more we may seem to allude it. However, the more we simply yield to the Spirit of Christ, the more His life becomes real in us. The scripture following this verse shares with us how being led by the sinful nature plays out versus how being led by the Spirit plays out. The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God (vs. 19-21). So, if we're living in this type of life, we're not living in the Kingdom. This stuff is outside the Kingdom. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires (vs. 22, 24). What are we living in? What should we yield to? God has given us His Spirit to enable us to live in the Kingdom. Are we? The more we yield to the Spirit and live by the Spirit, the more we experience the life we were created for and become who we were created to be, the more we are truly fulfilled.
