John 18:37 "You are a king, then!" said Pilate.
Jesus answered, "You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me." 1 John 3:8 . . . The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work.
Kenny and I saw a movie the other night, The 1517 to Paris. The story was a true one, the story of three young men on a train to Paris who actually took down an attacker, minimizing his terror, and saving the life of the one he did shoot. The young men actually played themselves in the movie. The movie takes you back to the lives of the young men as they were growing up and became friends. The story of young Spencer was especially significant. He had dreams which seemed to go awry. He always wanted to help people through the military, but for one reason or another he wasn't able to get into the right branches to do what he wanted to do. By the end of the movie, it was very evident that his whole life was in preparation for the moment on the train. And even though Spencer played the major role, he could not have done what he did alone. Each of them played a significant part in the unfolding drama.
I don't think that any of us can understand why in some instances as on this train, the evil is thwarted and lives are saved, and in other instances, such as the recent school shooting, many lives are lost. We can make our observations and judgments, which may or may not ring true. But I do believe this, that we each have a destiny, whether we deem it great or small. And the only thing I know we can do is to put our lives in the hands of God and follow His prompting, His leading, every day that we live. We may not be the hero on the train, but who knows, we may make a difference in somebody's life even when we don't know what we're doing. There are people out there making a difference every day-- teachers in the classroom, firefighters, doctors and nurses, pastors, friends helping friends, parents, grandparents, co-workers. You are destined for greatness. You are a child of God.
