Lamentations 3:22-24 Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, "The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him."
The book of Lamentations is a book of mourning and deep sorrow. The plight of the people of God is a sad one for they have refused to live as the people of God. They have turned away from Him. As a result, they are reaping the consequences--devastation and being overcome by their enemies. Joy is gone from our hearts; our dancing has turned to mourning. The crown has fallen from our head. Woe to us, for we have sinned (5:15, 16)! But despite their predicament, if they will but turn back to the Lord, they will again see His rescue once their punishment is complete. Even in the midst of trouble, God is still faithful and compassionate! David also spoke of God's faithfulness in the night season. Sing to the LORD, you saints of his; praise his holy name. For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning (Psalm 30:4, 5).
The KJV reads, It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The Bible is FULL of references to the mercy of God. It speaks of His great mercy, of how He is rich in mercy. And when we were hopeless and helpless, He poured out His mercy on us, especially through His Son Jesus Christ. O Give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever (Psalm 136:1). Receive of His mercy today!
