Exodus 6:6 "Therefore, say to the Israelites: 'I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. . . "
In the book of Exodus, we see God's call to redemption. And how is that redemption meted out? Through the blood of the lambs. As the last plague is about to begin, the Israelites are instructed by God to take the blood of a lamb for each household and spread it on the doorpost of each home. The death angel would then pass over that home. And following that plague upon their oppressors, the Israelites would be free to leave Egypt.
Colossians speaks of our rescue and redemption: For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins (1:13, 14). And Peter goes on to say: For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect (1 Peter 1:18).
And so we place ourselves in the hands of a mighty God--I AM THAT I AM-- who alone is able to rescue and redeem.
As the Israelites left Egypt, their enemies pursued them to the Red Sea. They were hemmed in on all sides with the army closing in on them. But Moses spoke to them and said, " Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still (Exodus 14:13, 14)." And the LORD opened up the sea before them so they could walk right through it!
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast (Ephesians 2:8, 9). And so we listen for the Word of God and then place ourselves in the hand of God, the hand alone that can save.
