Proverbs 2:1-9 My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds victory in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. Then you will understand what is right and just and fair--every good path.
When we receive Jesus and open our hearts to His Spirit, He comes in to us and abides with us. He deposits into our spirits, His Spirit, Who teaches us all things. Colossians reveals to us the mystery that Paul preached: For I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fulness--the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. . . My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 1:25-2:3). In speaking of the Holy Spirit, Jesus told us in John 16:14, "He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you." Jesus, in speaking to the woman at the well, said, "Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life (John 4:14)." We have a treasure within us. We don't have to go searching all over the world for knowledge and wisdom, just look within. I've heard it said that there is an 18 inches journey we must take, from our minds to our hearts, but the journey is actually in reverse, from our hearts to our minds to gain understanding by revelation from God. We do study the word, using our minds, but it is to bring our minds into agreement with what is in our spirits. In knowing that we are His children, Romans 8:16 says this, The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. And indeed all that we "discover" is attested to by that inner witness, wherein we come into agreement with the Truth that is within us. Mine that treasure as one who has discovered a gold mine. It is of far greater value than silver or gold.
