Galatians 4:4, 5 ESV But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.
The fullness of time. . . . now that's somewhat of a mystery. That's one of those "only God knows" things, isn't it? I can't say that I fully understand the fullness of time. But I do know this, that Jesus came at just the right time. Everything was done at just the right time, the time set by God even before time began. He tells us in Ecclesiastes that there is a time for everything. And then here in Galatians we find that the time had fully come for Jesus to come among us and to redeem us from our sin. Before this, those who looked to God looked forward to His day ( "Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad (John 8:56).") The apostle Paul tells us that Today is the day of salvation. And in Hebrews 3, we are encouraged to encourage one another: But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. . . Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts. . .
Simeon had been promised by God that he would see God's salvation before he died. After Jesus' birth, Mary and Joseph brought Him to the temple to be dedicated. Simeon was there. Upon seeing the baby, Simeon . . . took him up in his arms and blessed God and said, "Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel (Luke 2:28-32)." Just as Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the temple and presented Him there to the Lord, let us bring those to the temple today who need to see their salvation in Him. Let us lift before the Lord those on our hearts who need a revelation of the salvation of the Lord. Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you. . . Lift up your eyes all around, and see. . .
We may not always understand the timing of the Lord. But we can know that Today is the day of salvation. Just like Abraham we can look toward it. We may be traveling along this road of life when we see it suddenly as did the apostle Paul. Lord, open our eyes that we may see Your Truth Today. And open the eyes of others to see Your Truth, as well.
